Downtown Worcester in December
Once Thanksgiving is over, downtown Worcester gets busy. The Hanover Theatre, Mechanics Hall, and the DCU Center all put on holiday programming, and they're all within about a mile of each other.
If you're 21+ and planning a night out, Diem Worcester is right in the neighborhood. We're at 74 Grafton St in the Canal District, under a mile from every venue on this list, with our own parking lot.
Here's what's on the calendar this season. Schedules change, so always confirm with the venue before you buy tickets.
The Hanover Theatre
The Hanover sits at 2 Southbridge St, where Southbridge meets Main, about a mile from Diem.
A Christmas Carol
The Hanover's A Christmas Carol is a Worcester holiday staple, and this is its 19th annual production. It runs December 17–23, with a new director, Billie Aken-Tyers, taking over this year.

Parking
The Hanover points theatergoers to the Federal Plaza Garage first, where you can book ahead through ParkWhiz. The Worcester Common Garage and the McGrath (Library) Lot are also nearby.
Mechanics Hall
Mechanics Hall is at 321 Main St, on the north end of downtown and under a mile from Diem. The historic hall hosts some of the city's longest-running holiday concerts.
- *Handel's Messiah (December 5, 7pm): the Worcester Chorus's annual holiday performance, presented by Music Worcester.
- Massachusetts Symphony Orchestra Holiday Pops (December 12, 8pm): the 46th annual edition.
- Bob Marley comedy show (December 27, 8pm): a good laugh between Christmas and New Year's.
Mechanics Hall doesn't have its own parking. There's limited street parking on Main and Waldo Streets, and plenty of lots and garages within walking distance.
DCU Center
The DCU Center is at 50 Foster St, under a mile from Diem. Trans-Siberian Orchestra brings The Ghosts of Christmas Eve there on Saturday, November 28, with shows at 3pm and 7:30pm.
The DCU Center doesn't run its own parking. The Major Taylor Boulevard Municipal Garage (30 Major Taylor Blvd) and the Mercantile Center Garage are both about a block from the arena entrance.
Lights on the Common
The city's winter light installation usually goes up on Worcester Common in early December. Last year it switched on December 5 and stayed lit through March 1. Watch the City of Worcester's site for this year's date. It's worth a walk past on your way back to the garage.
Parking tips for show nights
- Street meters downtown run Monday–Saturday, 8am–8pm. They're free on Sundays and holidays.
- Book a garage ahead on big nights. A sold-out DCU Center show and a Christmas Carol* performance can land on the same weekend.
- Park near your venue. Garages close to the door make the walk shorter on a cold night.
Where Diem fits in
Our advice is simple: see the show, then stop at Diem on your way home. Monday through Saturday we're open until 11pm, and Sundays until 10pm, so there's often time after an evening performance.

- Bring a valid government-issued photo ID. You need to be 21 or older.
- Payment: debit, cash, or DutchiePay. We have two ATMs on site.
- Purchase limit: As of April 2026, Massachusetts allows adults 21+ to buy up to two ounces of flower, or the equivalent in other products. Mixing categories? Our budtenders can help you work out what fits.
Know the rules
- Enjoy it at home. Massachusetts doesn't allow public consumption. That includes theaters, arenas, garages, sidewalks, and the Common.
- Gifts are for adults 21+ only. Never give cannabis to anyone under 21.
- Keep it sealed in the car. Cannabis should stay in its original sealed packaging or in the trunk. Never consume in a car, and never drive high.
- It stays in Massachusetts. Taking cannabis across state lines is illegal, even to another legal state.
